At least three people have died and two others are injured after gunmen attacked a construction site in Kebbi State, Nigeria. The incident took place on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway project in the Maiyama Local Government Area.
The victims include two security operatives and a foreign national working on the road project. Two civilians also suffered gunshot wounds during the attack. The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Bashir Usman, reported that the assault happened in Gubba Village.
Usman stated that the attackers, believed to be part of a group known as Lakurawa terrorists, came from the Kebbe area of neighboring Sokoto State. Following the attack, police teams successfully repelled another assault in the Birnin Malam area on the same day.
Joint security forces have been deployed to the region to enhance safety and prevent further violence. The police spokesperson noted that military personnel neutralized several attackers and recovered multiple motorcycles.
As a result of the attack, construction work at the site has been halted. Security agencies are increasing surveillance and sending additional personnel to the area. The police assured workers that the government is committed to their safety and urged them to stay calm.
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has visited nearby communities to express sympathy to residents affected by recent bandit attacks. He emphasized his administration’s dedication to improving security and protecting local communities.
