Civil Service Union Awards President Tinubu for Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) has awarded its prestigious Shield Award to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This recognition highlights his commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers. The award was presented on Monday during the union’s 114th anniversary celebrations.

The Shield Award is the highest honor given by the NCSU, reserved for those who have shown exceptional service to Nigerian workers. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, accepted the award on behalf of President Tinubu at Merit House in Abuja.

During the ceremony, NCSU National President Comrade Oluwole Sunday praised Tinubu as a protector of workers’ rights. He noted that the President’s policies have consistently prioritized the needs of the labor force, boosting morale among civil servants.

Keyamo expressed his excitement about receiving the award from Nigeria’s oldest trade union, which has a history of advocating for workers’ rights since before Nigeria became a nation. He highlighted Tinubu’s compassion for workers and his quick action on welfare issues.

Keyamo mentioned recent actions taken by Tinubu, including the approval of N36 billion for former aviation workers and a new salary structure for employees of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, resolving a long-standing pay dispute.

He also noted that Tinubu signed a new minimum wage into law in 2024 and reduced the review period from five years to three. This means that negotiations for a new minimum wage will begin in 2027.

Keyamo emphasized that the fight for workers’ welfare continues, stating that it is essential to ensure fair treatment for all workers, especially in the aviation sector.
