Cristiano Ronaldo Apologizes for Leaving Portugal Camp, Open to Return
Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he is still available to play for Portugal after leaving the national team camp. He explained that he walked out due to disagreements with head coach Jorge Jesus over his playing time.
The 41-year-old forward, who plays for Al Nassr, had raised concerns about his future with the national team after his departure. However, he stated, “If I am physically well, I will be available… to compete and win for our national team,” in a statement shared with Reuters.
Ronaldo apologized to his teammates and the Portuguese public for leaving the camp. He also mentioned that he would accept any disciplinary actions from the Portuguese Football Federation. His exit followed a match where he did not play, despite being told he would be on the field for 30 minutes.
Ronaldo said he and Jesus had previously agreed that he would miss certain matches to manage his fitness. However, he felt the coach broke that agreement. He noted, “It was the second time he had broken his word to me,” which led to his decision to leave.
In response, Jesus denied that any such agreement existed but indicated that Ronaldo could still return to the team. Ronaldo also addressed rumors about his involvement in tactical decisions, insisting he has never interfered in such matters during his long career.
Looking ahead, Ronaldo mentioned he expects to have farewell matches in the future but is focused on competing for Portugal. He emphasized his commitment to the national team, recalling how he stayed with the squad even during personal hardships.
