The chairman of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State, Hon. Maurice Orwough, announced that the area is now free from attacks by herdsmen. He made this statement in Makurdi while celebrating his two years in office.
Orwough explained that his administration has worked to improve security by opening more rural roads. These roads help security personnel patrol the area more effectively and respond quickly to emergencies. He stated, “Once there are access roads to communities, it becomes easy for security agencies to respond to emergency situations.”
According to Orwough, peace has returned to Guma, and local markets are bustling with traders. He highlighted the significant damage caused by armed herdsmen in the past, which included the destruction of schools, health centers, and markets.
In the past two years, Orwough’s administration has rebuilt health centers, renovated schools, and opened more markets. He also upgraded the police station in Daudu to an Area Command and increased the number of officers stationed there.
Orwough acknowledged that while two years is a short time to achieve everything, he has provided strong leadership and aims to do even more if given another chance. Guma was previously severely affected by herdsmen violence, with many residents displaced and properties destroyed.
