North-Central Leaders Launch Movement to Support Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

On Friday, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, led a group of political leaders from North-Central Nigeria in launching a movement to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027. The event took place at Akume’s office in Abuja and was announced the following day by the movement’s National Coordinator, Sonny Echono.

During the meeting, Akume emphasized that the North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 aims to build strong support for the President across the region as the election approaches. He stated, “The principal objective of this movement is to canvass support and mobilise a massive turnout for Mr President in the 2027 election.”

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, praised the initiative, noting that the region is in a better political position than it was before the 2023 election. He pointed to the involvement of key political figures from the region as a sign of this strengthened position.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, called the movement a first of its kind and praised Echono for his efforts. He assured attendees that support structures would be established to aid the movement’s activities leading up to the election.

Echono highlighted the goal of coordinating political leaders and grassroots stakeholders across the six states in North-Central Nigeria. He stated that the focus is not just on whether Tinubu can win the region, but on ensuring it delivers the highest number of votes possible in the upcoming election.
