Ondo APC Leaders Reject Coalition for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Elders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have turned down a proposal to form a coalition with other political parties to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. They believe their party is strong enough to win the state on its own.

This decision comes after Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, created a Rainbow Coalition. This coalition aims to unite different parties to back Tinubu while allowing them to run for local and legislative positions.

Dr. Demola Ijabiyi, the chairman of the elders’ group, stated during a meeting in Akure that such a coalition is unnecessary in Ondo. He emphasized that the APC is well-established in the state and can achieve the goal of over one million votes for the President.

Ijabiyi acknowledged the importance of cooperation among political parties but insisted that the situation in each state should guide any such arrangements. He pointed out that the APC currently controls both the state and local governments in Ondo.

He invited other parties to support Tinubu’s re-election but made it clear that this support should not come at the expense of APC candidates. Ijabiyi expressed confidence in their candidates’ chances of winning and stressed the need for a united effort to ensure the success of the entire APC ticket.

Additionally, he urged candidates for the National Assembly and state assembly to engage actively in the ongoing campaign efforts. He called on women and youth within the party to lead door-to-door campaigns to help secure the targeted votes.
