South-East APC Backs Progressive Governors’ Forum, Rejects Wike’s “Rainbow Coalition” Ahead of 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership across the South-East zone has thrown its weight behind the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), issuing a strong rejection of external political realignments as the countdown to the 2027 general elections gathers momentum.

The regional endorsement was contained in a joint statement issued in Abuja by the APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, alongside the party chairmen from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states. The leadership reaffirmed that absolute internal cohesion and unalloyed support for all party flagbearers—from the presidency to the state houses of assembly—remain non-negotiable.

Central to the regional declaration is a sharp pushback against the political alignments championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The South-East APC explicitly dismissed what it termed the “rainbow (chameleon) coalition,” warning that the party structure will resist any covert or overt external framework aimed at fracturing the ruling party’s baseline support or undermining its candidates.

The zonal leadership also took direct aim at recent public remarks made by Wike targeting members of the PGF, describing the criticisms as “most unfortunate, reprehensible, and completely unacceptable”. Defending the track records of the governors, the statement emphasized that the targeted state chief executives are performing leaders who have not only transformed their respective domains but also delivered critical threshold votes for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 polls.

“Progressive Governors are not abstract politicians; they are performing leaders whose records speak for themselves,” the leaders stated, maintaining that no political appointee should presume authority or attempt to dictate the political fortunes of democratically elected governors.

Calling for a return to strict party discipline, mutual respect, and collective responsibility, the South-East APC leadership urged all party faithful across the zone to ignore divisive distractions and focus squarely on grassroots mobilization to secure a comprehensive electoral sweep in 2027.
