Trump Endorses Netanyahu Ahead of Israel’s Upcoming Election
US President Donald Trump has endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu just days before Israel’s parliamentary election on October 27. This endorsement comes as Netanyahu seeks to secure another term amid a tight race.
In a video from his Likud party, Netanyahu highlighted his strong ties with Trump, claiming they had worked together to weaken Iran. He expressed hope that if re-elected, he could continue this partnership to address threats from Iran.
This election is particularly significant as it is the first since the October 7 Hamas-led attack, which has led to criticism of Netanyahu for allegedly ignoring warnings about the situation. Trump praised Netanyahu on social media, describing him as strong and capable in the face of challenges.
Netanyahu thanked Trump for his support and urged voters to heed Trump’s words about their accomplishments together. However, Iranian officials have warned that Netanyahu’s actions could lead to further conflict.
Netanyahu, who has been in power for over 19 years, faces opposition from Gadi Eisenkot, a former military chief and leader of the Yashar party. Current polls suggest that neither Netanyahu’s coalition nor Eisenkot’s group is likely to secure enough seats to form a government.
Eisenkot emphasized that it is up to Israelis to choose their leaders, despite Trump’s warning that a vote against Netanyahu could lead to complications for US-Israel relations.
