Nigerian Air Force Reports Major Fuel Use and Operations for National Security
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that it used almost 10 million litres of aviation fuel while conducting over 2,900 missions to support national security from November 2025 to September 2026. This information was shared in a statement by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, ahead of the first anniversary of Air Marshal Sunday Aneke as Chief of the Air Staff on October 30.
During this period, the NAF logged more than 6,100 flying hours. The missions included close air support, precision strikes, reconnaissance, and surveillance aimed at weakening hostile groups and aiding ground forces. The NAF emphasized that these operations were guided by actionable intelligence and specific goals to enhance national security.
Ejodame noted that these efforts are part of a broader transformation agenda focused on improving operational effectiveness, personnel welfare, and technological advancements. He mentioned that six L-39ZA aircraft are being upgraded in Slovakia and Nigeria, while maintenance on a C-130 aircraft is ongoing in Portugal.
The NAF has also approved 284 projects, with 145 completed and 139 still in progress. These projects aim to improve facilities for housing, education, medical care, and other essential services for personnel.
In terms of personnel development, 57 senior officers were promoted, and thousands of others received training to enhance their skills. The NAF has also added five new helicopters to its fleet and is looking to acquire more advanced aircraft and drones.
Ejodame highlighted the importance of community engagement through healthcare and education projects to build trust with the public. The NAF is committed to improving its operations through better training, strategic partnerships, and enhanced safety measures.
