Suspected Ebola Patient Evacuated from Nigeria by Air Ambulance
A woman suspected to be Nigeria’s first Ebola patient has been evacuated from the country by air ambulance. This medical evacuation occurred early on Monday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
According to reports from ARISE News, the woman is said to be the wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria. She was flown out of the country around 6 a.m. Local sources noted that a convoy of ambulances and diplomatic vehicles arrived at the airport’s private aviation section.
Airport officials secured the area as preparations were made for the evacuation. Video footage captured at the scene showed a medical aircraft and its crew ready to transport a passenger. The situation raised suspicions that the passenger was the reported Ebola index patient.
While there are indications that the Federal Government plans to announce the evacuation once the aircraft leaves Nigerian airspace, there has been no official confirmation from government bodies like the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) or airport authorities regarding the patient’s identity or condition.
As of now, the details surrounding this evacuation remain unverified and await official statements.
