Plateau Governor Blames Buhari’s Policies for Current Economic Challenges

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government for selling crude oil before it was extracted. He claims that the current government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is still dealing with the financial consequences of these actions.

Mutfwang made these remarks during the launch of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections in Jos. He stated that the Buhari administration’s decisions have contributed to the economic difficulties faced by the Tinubu government.

He explained that the previous government sold future oil production, which has resulted in ongoing debt. Mutfwang emphasized that improvements in the economy will take time and cannot happen overnight.

The governor also labeled the fuel subsidy program under Buhari as a national fraud, claiming it involved borrowing money to pay for false claims. He noted that the removal of this subsidy has improved fuel availability, even if prices remain high.

Mutfwang defended Tinubu’s economic policies, stating that Nigeria’s external reserves have increased significantly. He pointed out that when Tinubu took office, the country’s reserves were critically low, affecting international business operations.

To help ease the economic strain, Mutfwang highlighted initiatives like the introduction of new buses, the revival of rail services in Jos, and reductions in tuition fees for state universities. He also mentioned a federal education loan program benefiting local students.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Mutfwang urged support for Tinubu’s re-election, advocating for a rotation of power between Nigeria’s North and South. He expressed confidence that the APC would succeed in Plateau State and encouraged party members to focus on grassroots efforts and peaceful campaigning.
