FCSC Chairman Advocates for Collaboration to Enhance Civil Service
The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Prof. Tunji Olaopa, has urged federal and state civil service commissions to work together. He believes this collaboration is essential for creating a skilled and efficient public service that can support national growth. Olaopa made these remarks at the 45th National Council and Annual Conference of Civil Service Commissions in Asaba, Delta State.
Olaopa described the annual conference as a vital opportunity for sharing knowledge and improving public service management in Nigeria. He emphasized the need for better teamwork between federal and state commissions, especially in developing fair hiring and promotion practices.
According to Olaopa, the success of national development goals, such as the aim to build a $1 trillion economy by 2030, relies heavily on the ability of local governments and their public institutions to perform effectively. He highlighted the FCSC’s recent accomplishments, including online recruitment and testing, which have improved the fairness and transparency of the selection process.
He also mentioned efforts to combat corruption in hiring and promotions, and the importance of integrating new technologies like artificial intelligence into public administration. Olaopa stressed the need for ongoing training and sharing of knowledge to prepare civil servants for future challenges.
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, supported Olaopa’s views, stating that a strong civil service is crucial for implementing government policies. He noted that the civil service must adapt to changes brought by technology and artificial intelligence. The governor’s administration is focusing on improving skills, digital transformation, and worker welfare to enhance the public service.
